DIABETES - CAUSES, SYSPTOMS AND PREVENTION

Diabetes is said to be a disease where a person has high blood sugar or

blood glucose due to an inability to metabolize or produce sufficient

insulin. If there is not enough insulin the sugar or glucose stays

in the blood which will cause other health problems. Diabetes are of two types namely;

Diabetes type 1 - Is a type whereby the body does not produce or make insulin.

Diabetes type 2 - Is also a type whereby the body produce or use insulin adequately.

Also, a person can have prediabetes meaning that the blood sugar content is high but not as high

to be called diabetes.

Diabetes does not have a common cause. It all depends on the type, family history, genetic,

environmental and health factors. In diabetes type 1 the immune system destroys the cells that

makes insulin which results in the body not having insulin to function properly.Type 2 diabetes

causes most times is related to genetic risk factor and obesity.

Risk factors that can increase the chances of having diabetes include;

     1.   Having excess fat or being obesity the risk of diabetes increases.

     2.   Not been physically active.

     3.   Family history.

     4.   If fat level in the blood is 251mg/dL and above.

     5.   As you grow older in age the risk of diabetes increases

     6.   Gestational diabetes.

     7.   Having irregular menstrual period and abnormal or excess hair growth.

     8.   If your blood pressure is high over 140/90mm.

     9.   If your cholesterol level is below 35mg/dL.

     10. Race.

Type 1 diabetes symptom are experienced quickly than type 2 diabetes. Some of the symptoms

include;

     1.   Unable  to see properly (blurred vision).

     2.   Stress or fatigue.

     3.   High appetite.

     4.   Infections (vaginal or yeast infection).

     5.   Cuts and Soars not healing fast.

     6.   Abnormal or irregular urination.

     7.   Excessive weight loss.

     8.   Extreme thirst.

     9.   High blood pressure.

     10. Irregular menstrual period.

  Prevention of diabetes may include;

     1.   Stop smoking.

     2.   Go for diabetes check-up.

     3.   Reduce alcohol intake.

     4.   Nutritional diet should be taking.

     5.   Do exercise regularly.

     6.   Try not to be overweight.

     7.   Contolling of Blood pressure.

     8.   Eat more of fresh food than processed foods.
